Pat Hentgen on the Steroid Era and the Hall Question

Plus, what it was like playing in Toronto.

On the latest episode of the Post Game podcast, former Cy Young winner and World Series Champion Pat Hentgen joins the program. In a far-ranging conversation, we spoke about Pat’s transition to coaching, the mental side of the game, and what he looks for when he’s scouting and evaluating young pitchers. The interview also covered what he’s learned (and stole) from his favourite coaches, including legendary Blue Jays pitching coach Mel Queen. The interview also included his thoughts on playing through the Steroids Era and his thoughts on whether or not players who’ve admitted to juicing belong in the Hall of Fame. Other topics include what it was like playing in Toronto in the 90s, the challenges of raising a young family as a ballplayer, the lessons he picked up from his blue-collar parents, and what it was like to see the city celebrate a Championship again.
